What's Cookin'

Books for Cooks
I'll tell you what's cookin' today here in London. I met a friend and fellow American at THE MOST adorable cookbook shop and eatery in charming Notting Hill today. Books and books of fabulous recipes lined the walls and counter space, and in the back every day, you can partake in chef specials between 11:30 and 1:30 pm.

Get this: for just 7 GBP, you can savor a three-course lunch. Today's specials: English onion soup, Jerusalem artichokes with salad and feta cheese, and some sort of chocolate decadence for dessert. D.I.V.I.N.E. Tuesdays are vegetarian days, but it's open five days a week for lunch. (I am extremely partial to the T Room on McKinney Avenue, but this comes mighty close.) And in order to knowledgeably recommend cookbooks to customers, these chefs make every dish from recipes found between the covers on their shelves. Personally I can't wait to go back. Check them out at www.booksforcooks.com

Afterwards, I checked out other kinds of books on other shelves across the street at The Travel Bookshop. Yep, the one from the movie "Notting Hill." No Hugh Grant today, but I did pick up a good travel book for 2010. Below is a pic from this summer, about 48 hours after we landed and were in the joyful stage of flat hunting... :)

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone!
