The first full day together in London, the Bickings/Ruby clan bundled up and set off for Canterbury. Mind you, it was snowing slightly and freeeezing. But, we braved it and bought our tickets for Dover--off to see the white cliffs and medieval castle. We were stuck on the tracks for a while due to ice and snow, which is highly unusual here in Britain, but finally arrived in the little coastal town of Dover. Although the castle was closed because of the weather, we hailed a cab to drive us by the White Cliffs of Dover and then on to the quaint little village of Canterbury. Here's a description of Canterbury, thanks to our fabulous day trip book: "Spinning the stories immortalized in "The Canterbury Tales," author Jeffery Chaucer's pilgrims made their way to Canterbury to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral.... and the city is also the seat of the Anglican church." Also interesting, this town is the site of the place where Christianity was first permitted to be preached in England.
