Day Trip: Cambridge

Last weekend, we also went to Cambridge for the day. Here's a little summary of the town from our day trip book: 'Cambridge, like Oxford, is forever linked with the venerable university that has flourished here on the banks of the River Cam for 7 centuries. Before the great university took root here, Cambridge was known to the Romans as a place to ford the Cam, and housed several monastic settlements in the Middle Ages...'
The whole train ride over to Cambridge, the skies were blue and the sun was shining. Upon alighting (English word for 'getting off') the train, the skies were gray and it was raining cats and dogs--we: worried. But, after a nice lunch and tea at the cute cafe, Auntie's, the skies cleared up nicely for us and we were able to tour the town. We toured several colleges, got a tour and punted on the River Cam with a guide (favorite!), walked around town, saw some of the Harry Potter and Chariots of Fire movie filming sites, and enjoyed seeing another one of England's famous places together. Our guide told us lots of fun little known facts about the city's architecture, college rivalry, and a long list of famous Cambridge graduates... such as Lord Byron, Lord Tennyson, and Prince Charles.
