Day Trip: Hever Castle

Last weekend, we took a train to the Kent countryside of England and toured Hever Castle. A little history: built in 1270, its most resident to grow up at Hever is Anne Boleyn, second queen of Henry VIII and mother to Queen Elizabeth I. Hever later passed on to the Astor family in the early 1900s, the American family who is famous for owning the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The Astors restored it to the 16th-century splendor it was famous for during the Tudor dynasty, added beautiful Italian gardens, and the estate is now open to the public.
It was a true English estate and very medieval on the outside, complete with a working moat, and updated on the inside. A little band from the neaby little town of Hever played for visitors during the afternoon, making for a really neat setting. Enjoy the pics!

I love the Tudor period of English history, and I'm especially interested in Henry the 8th and his wives. I can't wait to go here someday!
