One Year Ago Today...

We moved out of our first house....
Everything was turned upside down...
Piles were made: to Irving for storage or to be shipped by sea...
And the movers boxed and wrapped every single little thing we own for 3 days.
I am still so sad when I think about our first little house that we loved so dearly! My mom and sister worked so hard to help us sort and pack and wash every single thing we owned, friends came and helped take food from our pantry and fridge, and every day for lunch, we brought the Mayflower movers Burger House burgers. And on the last day, after our sweet friend Lindsay helped us patch up the holes in our walls, we sat on our back porch with a very empty house behind us, had a few prayers and tears (ok, I had a LOT of big-time tears!), and drove off with the keys to our house left inside our house. Then we were off to live with best friends for two weeks before flying out of DFW wondering what in the world we were doing! And now, here we are, almost a year later, living in our cozy little flat in London wearing our NorthFace fleeces in May, and I am thankful we aren't packing, patching, and most of all, emotionally crying my way out of our first house and home.

Sidenote: those golf clubs that just had to come with us to London (because there are sooo many courses in this big city), are now in our itsy bitsy storage attic in our flat, never have been used, as are the a gazillion kitchen things I just might need (for all those dinner parties and small group get-togethers like in Dallas?) and because I also had no idea we would be downsizing our living quarters by half when we got to Greater London (see last post about who can afford a yard)... haha. Oh, the things we learned quickly as little American expats in London. :)
