The Shops Around the Corner

Over here in London, the closer something is the better... since foot travel is now our transportation of choice. So, when we found out about this little street about a block and a half away from our little flat, we were so excited to be able to just run around the corner and get most anything we need from one of these little cafes, pharmacy, small grocer, fruit and vegetable market, etc. There is even a nail salon, an old-fashioned barber shop, and two dry cleaners to choose from. Everyone seems to know everyone, and they all promote each other's businesses and services to their neighborhood patrons (so very cute). So, of course I've introduced myself to them, and we all wave and say hello by name each morning when I get coffee (they have the MOST AMAZING coffee at a little French cafe on this street) or am out walking the street to get our groceries for the day.

It's so quaint and cozy, in fact, and if they only accept cash and you're carrying a card, they very kindly say, "It's ok, Kambry, just bring in that extra 50 pence tomorrow. Have a great day!"

And then I walk home in awe and double check that the year is still, indeed, 2009, and not 1940. Sometimes, here, I am not always quite sure. (in a very good way!)
