Under the Tuscan Sun

What started as a recommendation for an afternoon visit to a cozy, family-owned vineyard in the Tuscan countryside turned into two of our favorite days we spent together in Italy. As we rode the train from Florence to the little village of Poggibonsi, we could hardly believe our eyes as the yellow stucco houses and rolling hills of Italian vineyards popped into view outside our carriage car windows. Contrary to larger cities, this region had not one sign in English and we had to converse in the native tongue or point and nod (which we did both). First stop, Piereluigi's vineyard. We toured and stayed, and saw the place that he and his family have been growing grapes since 1720.

Memories made: sharing homemade lasagna when we arrived, chatting with the family, the tasting, and best part: waking up to a crowing rooster and quacking geese on the vineyard at 5:30, then hearing the neighboring rooster follow suite.

We ventured to the nearby medieval village of San Gimignano for a walk around, view of the countryside, and a Tuscan dinner together.
